Emmy Precictions: Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series

Very very tight category this year, a few actors returning to pick up yet another nomination and two who are not only receiving their first nomination but are also two of the favourites to win the category. This category and the females in drama series are often so hard to judge because each of them brings something so different to the table.

Bob Odenkirk

I actually really like the character of Saul in Better Call Saul, I find him a very likeable character and think that deep down he is just trying to do his best, something you can’t say for everyone in this category! I have not seen all of season two but do already think his work in season one was slightly better. He didn’t manage to pick up the award last year and I don’t think it’s likely he’ll pick it up this year.

Kyle Chandler

Even though the actor managed to pick up a nomination last year along with some of his other cast members, Bloodline recently got the chop from Netflix, finishing after three seasons. From what I’ve seen the show is good its just not as good as some of the Netflix originals, and I think that’s why it struggled to draw in the viewers. With some strong competition, I think Chandler is probably the biggest outsider.

Kevin Spacey

I am so glad to see Spacey nominated again, although his role in this season of House Of Cards has been a little less then some of the other seasons. I would have to say this has been one of the better seasons of House Of Cards but I think if anyone was to take home an acting award this season it would have to be the graceful wife Mrs. Underwood who had her best season yet. Spacey should never be considered an easy nomination because I feel year in, year out he more than deserves it.

Rami Malek

The newcomer to the Emmys but with previous Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jon Hamm out of the picture it seems like Rami’s award to take this year. Even though Mr. Robot isn’t set in a massive fantasy world, Malek is still able to bring to live a character like no other we have seen on TV. The scariest thing about the character is, we all know someone like him and we all wonder if they would be capable of this. One of the highlights of his performance is actually his voice over performance, just as eerie as his character.

Liev Schreiber

Another returning nominee and unfortunately like Chandler another loss. Ray Donovan has a massive following but not a big enough one to drum up enough support for Schreiber to win gold. It is unfortunate for good actors who continue to be nominated year after year but they lose out to an outstanding performance or an exciting newcomer. We might see another Jon Hamm and Schreiber will take home the award if he continues to be nominated in the show’s last season.

Matthew Rhys

Allot of buzz surrounding The Americans this year and that might just turn into an awards sweep in all the major drama categories. Compared to his co-star Keri Russell it might be a harder task as he is in a much tighter category than she is. Because I haven’t seen The Americans, I find it really hard to judge this category, looking from what the experts predict, I think this will be a win for Malek.

Will Win: Rami Malek

Should Win: Kevin Spacey

Snubbed: Wagner Moura
