Emmy Predictions: Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy

From the nominees this year, it just goes to show that the old saying “women aren’t funny” is the biggest joke around. I think this year the women’s category is leaps and bounds above the men and is much much harder to call. Will anyone be able to knock off the queen from taking home her FIFTH! Emmy for playing Washington’s biggest joke?

Tracee Ellis Ross

I know I know! I can’t really comment on her if I haven’t seen Black-ish but honestly, it’s near the top of my watch list! I can say I did see her guest star on the last two episodes of Broad City and she was hilarious. For a real Emmy shocker, this could be part of a Black-ish sweep which many experts wouldn’t be disappointed with!

Laurie Metcalf

I have to admit, I’ve never really even heard of Getting On, all I know is that it’s a remake of a British show that I also never watched. I do like Metcalf as an actress and think she has some really good comedy timing. Although she already lost out on her Guest Actress nomination for The Big Bang Theory to the powerhouses of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey I think they voters have to award her for one of her three nominations this year!

Lily Tomlin

Grace and Frankie is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, I think it’s absolutely hilarious and another massive hit from Netflix. Looking at the comedies Netflix produces they are all incredible. I actually prefer Jane Fonda’s character but still think Tomlin is hilarious. Unfortunately for her, she has too tough competition to be giving an acceptance speech this year.

Amy Schumer

The golden girl of the moment might be a popular choice for the voters and an Emmy might be soon on her mantlepiece. She is the dark horse for me this year in this category and it seems she is the wild-card from a sketch comedy show, all this could add up to a win for Miss.Schumer. I think she is hilarious but I did see her newest season of her show and think they’re stronger candidates in this category this year. Sorry Amy!

Ellie Kemper

Kemper deserved this nomination last year but the second season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was even better than the first. The show really got into a groove and hit it stride especially towards the end of the series. Kemper is an actress who really embodies her character and with good writing, she really knocked it out the park this season. I really want it to be a nice surprise with some Kimmy Schmidt love but I don’t know if she’ll be able to fight off the juggernaut.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

It would annoy me if someone was about to win their fifth Emmy for the same role, I would want some recognition to be spread out to someone else. But it’s hard to feel annoyed when that person is the downright hilarious Louis-Dreyfus who plays one of the funniest characters on TV right now. Veep has some of the best writers in the world which only boost to the brilliance Louis-Dreyfus achieves. Fifth Emmy coming your way!

Will Win: Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Should Win: Ellie Kemper / Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Snubbed: Ilana Glazer, Abbie Jacobson, Jane Fonda
